Report Text: BekantanGeneral ClassificationThe bekantan, also known as the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), is a type of primate that can only be found in Borneo. It belongs to the Colobinae subfamily and is famous for its long nose and reddish-brown fur. Bekantan usually live in mangrove forests, swamps, and riverbank areas. They are herbivorous animals, feeding mostly on young leaves, fruits, and seeds.Physical DescriptionThe bekantan has a very distinctive appearance compared to other monkeys. The most striking feature is the male’s long, pendulous nose, which can grow up to 18 centimeters. This large nose is believed to help in attracting females and amplifying vocal sounds. Their body is covered with thick, reddish-brown fur, while the arms, legs, and tail are grayish. An adult male is larger than the female, with a body length of about 70 centimeters and weight up to 24 kilograms, while females are smaller and lighter. They also have long tails that can reach the same length as their bodies, which help them maintain balance while moving through trees.
