At this time women were given the right to vote, there was a period of peace in the United States following WWI, and there was also a period of large economic growth and development. These factors can be seen as contributing to a positive atmosphere within the time period. In addition at the time alcohol was outlawed through prohibition which led to a rise of organized crime which was not a positive aspect of the time period. In addition in the 1920s there were massive waves of immigrants to the United States who faced a harsh and difficult reality of trying to make a life in the U.S. Depending on which segment of society you were a part of at this time there is a different perspective on whether they were the best or worst of times.
