Virginia company in Jamestown used African slaves as the main source of labor until 1619, when they requested more insight and influence on their laws. King James I disbanded the company in 1624 after war with Powhatan Indians in 1622 and some other crucial events. At that point Virginia became a royal colony, what in the end saved lives of many settlers.
King James I significantly influenced the survival of the Jamestown settlers by providing royal support, dissolving the Virginia Company to establish a royal colony, and improving governance. His actions allowed for better resource management and protection against Native American conflicts. This transition helped stabilize the colony, which was essential for its long-term survival.
